About Us

HISTORY OF GIVING HANDS - GIVING TO THOSE IN NEED

My daughter, Sarah and I started GIVING HANDS in 2009 as a way to provide some comfort/warmth and assurance to those in need ... that people do care. We both love to knit/crochet.
Our group is the first Canadian chapter of HANDMADE ESPECIALLY FOR YOU (an American group). * www.handmadeespecially.org

We and our fellow helpers do this by making handmade scarves and other items for distribution to centers that provide services to those in need of help. We donate to a transition house for abused women and their children; young adults (and their children) living in a shelter where they learn how to live on their own; shelters for homeless and transient people; cancer lodges; crisis pregnancy center; childrens' hospitals. The list goes on.

These gifts are given to help them ward off the cold, boost their self-esteem and give them an invisible hug all at the same time.

For those who can, we meet usually twice a month for a chance to share patterns, a hot cup of coffee/tea and lots of socialization while working together for the common goal. We also have helpers who have joined us from seeing us on line. * www.ravelry.com (Margaret - Pussywillow
and Sarah - Uberknitter) . You can become a member of GIVING HANDS ... on ravelry as well.

GIVING HANDS is a non-profit charity group. We each purchase the yarn and donate the completed project to the 'cause'. If you need help with postage for shipping purposes contact me at: givinghands@live.com.
